A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to not arguing with relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items came out during the break, and should you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)
Truly the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
