Debunking Venezuelan Victory Videos and AI Images of Maduro.

Synthetic graphics purporting to portray Nicolás Maduro in custody after his capture by the United States have amassed tens of millions of views across the internet.

The Way AI Images of the President Emerged Rapidly

Initial fake AI image seemingly showing him led off a plane circulated within hours. The picture was absent from any verified American sources; rather, it was uploaded on X by an account purporting to be an “AI video art enthusiast”.

Verification involved the SynthID tool, determining the picture was produced or modified with Google AI.

More synthetic images were disseminated in the ensuing period, seemingly depicting more angles of the leader detained. Visible identifying marks on these images indicate they came from an Instagram account named ultravfx.

AI analysis confirms the further pictures were similarly created or altered Google AI.

Authentic Image Released but Fakes Persisted

The former US president posted the first real photo of Nicolás Maduro handcuffed aboard the USS Iwo Jima on Saturday morning. Yet following this confirmation was published, synthetic pictures kept circulating but were modified to incorporate the gray sweatsuit seen on Maduro.

Online investigation reveal these updated fakes were originally uploaded on TikTok by a graphic design profile. Once again, the AI-watermark detector confirms these further images were produced with Google AI.
