Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt ready to share openly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has gone by that I can finally express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began passing more hours together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the production, adding that he doesn't recollect "any day without joy".
"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a different tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with the cast, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to prevent the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate placed a security hold on the cases to prohibit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the probe.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the deaths, public individuals expressed divergent responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing divisive statements that were broadly criticized by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the critics recently. Conversing on his show, Rogan characterized the comments as "disturbing" and implied they showed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an adviser should have intervened when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
