Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the global championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
