New England Match Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Win Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has tallied five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run from the Brady era as they overcame division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the New England's advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Fields running in a five-yard TD to finish the New York's first possession
But the Patriots fought back in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back grabbed a reception from Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third quarter to make it 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He aims to be great."
Justin Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots wrapped up the triumph
