The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining the project with a revised vision, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire content from the president's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to heart and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following some time of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to persist observing the development of the game in the time to come.
The President

Title Information and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Face the competition with unique powers, stakes, and challenges that shift every round. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an official debut schedule or platforms, but players can expect additional details as production continues.
