Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
